Scraper Planes
Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. A scraper plane is the perfect tool for hand finishing large or delicate worksurfaces, such as veneers, marquetry or burrs. Scraper planes work on the principle of taking a very light cut to produce a smooth clean surface, irrelevant of grain direction and without tear out. They have all the benefits of hand scraping but with the reassurance of a flat sole to ensure a consistent finish.

No 112 Scraper Plane
This scraping plane has an adjustable frog that can set angles from 0° to 25° to provide fine control of the cut. To increase the depth of cut you simply turn the dial to lean the blade forward and lean back for a shallower cut. Very light mallet taps to the top of the scraper blade can be used for micro-fine adjustment to produce extremely fine shavings. The 70mm wide scraper blade is ground at 45° and burnished to produce a hook that does the cutting. The plane has an overall length of 240mm and weighs 1.8kg.

Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features a heavy, stress relieved ductile iron casting which is precision machined to ensure the sole is perfectly flat. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large stainless steel cap iron. The front knob and handle are made from solid bubinga wood which provides a firm and comfortable grip. ©
